Okonjo-Iweala Says WTO Is Working To Boost Vaccine Production In Africa

The director-general of the world trade organization, Ngozi  Okonjo-Iweala has said talks are in motion to persuade vaccine companies to invest more in Africa.
Okonjo-Iweala made the comment while speaking virtually at the annual national diaspora day celebration in Abuja over the weekend, assuring that production of more vaccines on the continent will reduce vaccination inequality following rising cases of a covid-19 pandemic.

She, however, noted that attempts have been made to bring the chief executive officers of major manufacturing companies of the vaccines to the table while lamenting that about 1.5 percent of the population on the continent have been fully vaccinated.
