One Killed As Togo Police Clears Crowd Defying COVID 19 Curbs

One man has died while 17 others were injured in Northern Togo clashes between Police and a crowd holding a traditional ceremony in defiance of corona virus restrictions.

According to the Security Minister Yark Damehame, the incident occurred when residents of Niamtougou and Koka were taking part in a traditional celebration, which have been banned because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Damehame further revealed that  3,000 people were present at the ceremony which led the security to spear a tear gas bomb which  fatally struck an old man who was immediately evacuated to an infirmary where he later died while 13 policemen enforcing anti-virus regulations were among the wounded.

Two vehicles and a house were burnt down in the clashes.
