Soyinka Cautions Nigerians Against Relying On Social Media Information.

Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has advised Nigerians not to believe everything they read on the social media.

Soyinka, who cautioned that online publications should be taken “with a pinch of salt”, advised people to read books when in doubt in order to question the authenticity of what they see on social media, adding that reading of books will expand their horizons, and make the entire universe a better place.

Speaking at the unveiling of an art gallery in commemoration of his 85th birthday in Badagry at the weekend, the nobel laureate opined that the social media which was supposed to be an empowering media has been abused in Nigerians.

Soyinka, who condemned the recent lockout of the venue of a symposium he was billed to speak on the nation’s insecurity, advised government and security services to stop muzzling people when they come together to exchange ideas, adding that creativity thrives in an atmosphere of absolute freedom.
