Nigerian Government Blames Labour For Delay In Implementing Minimum Wage.

The federal government has attributed the delay in the implementation of the consequential adjustment of the 30 thousand naira new minimum wage to the unrealistic demands of labour unions.

The chairman of national salaries, income and wages commission, Chief Richard Egbule, made this known while speaking with news men yesterday in Abuja adding that the current demand of the labour unions has raised the total wage bill too high and that was why government could not accept their proposed salary adjustments.

The federal government had made budgetary provision for an adjustment of 10 thousand naira across the board for those already earning above 30 thousand naira per month, which the union has refused, saying they want 66 percent increment across board.
